The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission NERC has dismissed the rumors making the rounds that there is going to be an increase in electricity tariff effective from January 1, 2024.
The General Manager, Public Affairs Department, NERC, Usman Abba- Arabi allayed fears of Nigerians over the publication as to the effect that a new electricity tariff will come into operation, January1, 2024.
He said the writer of the story may have thought that going by the way Multi Year Tariff Order, MYTO, which stipulates that there must be a review of the economic indices that make up the electricity tariff every six months, the tariff would be increased this month.
The GM said there was no way that the electricity would be increased that NERC would not know. “But this that is being peddled around, we are not aware of it. Therefore Nigerians should go about their normal businesses.”
