One David Adeyemi has bagged a 6-month jail term after he was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Court over a two-count charge of assault on a staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, while discharging his official duty.

In a statement signed by the EKEDC General Manager, Corporate Communications, Godwin Idemudia, the defendant who had illegally connected his apartment at Makanjuola area of Apapa after being disconnected was rebuked by the staff. He then punched the staff in the face thereby inflicting injury on him after which he was arrested and subsequently arraigned.

Idemudia said “it is unbelievable that these acts are still happening in this age and time despite several appeals by the company to customers to make use of all our complaints resolution channels as well as being civil instead of resorting to self-help. It is rather barbaric to inflict injury on another person while carrying out his lawful duties”.

The Magistrate, Mrs. T.N. Idowu found Adeyemi guilty on a two-count charge bordering around assault and sentenced him to 6 months on both counts to run consecutively. She ordered that Adeyemi be remanded in the Ikoyi facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Idemudia urged customers to always seek diplomatic means and engagement in settling grievances. Customers are encouraged to make use of available resolution channels such as the EKEDC website; ekedp.com, 24/7 Customer Complaints Unit line: 07080655555, email;Customercare@ekedp.com and social media platforms (Twitter; @ekedp, Facebook; Eko Electricity, Instagram; ekedpng)

He further stated  that the Company frowns at all forms of assault and will seek the full extent of the law to ensure all offenders are brought to book.
