Nigerian Breweries donates palliatives to NUJ Enugu Council as FFS appeal for inclusion in the security meeting

    Nigerian Breweries Plc has  donated palliative to the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Enugu State Council.
    Delivering the items which included bags of rice, beans, tubers of yam, tomatoes paste, groundnut oil, and hand sanitizer to the chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Enugu State Council, Rex Arum, at the Press Centre, Enugu, Head, Corporate Affairs of the organisation, Isaac Nwabuzor, said that the gesture was to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown on the journalists.
    He added that the NBL was appreciative of the long standing relationship between the company and journalists in the state
    “We thank you for your support over the years. You are a key stakeholder to our operations in the state and we want the relationship to continue,” Nwabuzor said.

    Responding, Arum thanked the NBL for the gesture.

    He said that the company had shown great reputation and consistency in their operations as well as their relationship with the media in the state.

    Arum added that journalists in the state had been negatively affected by the overo of COVID-19, adding that the intervention by NBL would go a long way to cushion the effects of the pandemic on media practitioners.

    “We shall continue to support your company as media we thank your management for the support,” he said.

    Meanwhile, Federal Fire Service (FFS) headquarter South East Zone” D”, has appealed to Enugu State Government to incorporate the Service in the State Security Council meeting.

    The Zonal Commander, FSS,  Chika Njoku made the appeal on Tuesday, when he paid a courtesy visit on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo.

    Njoku who commended the governor for his good governance in the state, said that the inclusion will enable the Federal Fire Service to share security and safety intelligence with other sister agencies in the state.

    He appealed to the state government to extend the kind gestures made to their sister agencies in Enugu State (donation of vehicles) to the Federal Fire Service “as it will go a long way to enhance our service delivery in the area of public awareness/enlightenment campaign in the state”.

    Njoku said that part of their services include complementing intelligence gathering in security, safety, wealth and assets management within their area of jurisdiction.

    The Zonal commander hinted that the Federal Fire Service’s operational mandate within the state covers every citizen residual in the state.

    He believes that the mandate will be achieved by successfully executing their mission which includes Regulation, training, enforcing, public enlightment programme, impact reduction during emergencies, plan review and approval of private and public building, structures across the country.

    According to him, the Service will be fulfilled in the zone if the government would in its benevolence grant the agency requests.

    Njoku disclosed that the Controller General of Fire Service, Liman Ibrahim, has ordered the relocation of Zone D headquarter from Anambra State back to Enugu.

    Responding, Ezeilo thanked Njoku for appreciating the state government’s efforts in piloting the affairs of the state.

    She said that FFS has become a regulatory agency powered by law to provide regulatory oversight over a wide spectrum of industries, undertakings and activities with the key aim of preventing natural or man made disasters, fire outbreaks and other manifestations of humanitarian crises. ”

    The Deputy Governor expressed gladness that “The Federal Fire Service has undergone some fundamental but evidently welcome re-engineering, expansion, and re-organisation in the recent past and it is evidently living up to the legitimate expectations of our people, in terms of taking proactive steps to secure lives and property through the prevention of economic losses, arising from fire incidents’

    Ezeilo commended the agency wise and appropriate decision to introduce the new zonal commander to the zone through courtesy tour.

    ” On behalf of Governor Ugwuanyi, I would like to assure you that as a government; we will give you all necessary assistance.

    ” We will give you all support and cooperation in order to succeed in your assignment in the zone and I assure you that your request will be related to the governor, ” Ezeilo said.
