Jean-Marc Cordier, ex-VP of UAE oil firm, becomes head, NNPCL trading

    The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has announced Jean-Marc Cordier as its Head, Oil Trading Limited.

    The Group General Manager Public Affair Division, NNPCL, Garba Deen Muhammad, made this known in a statement last week Monday in Abuja.

    Reports say that Cordier, was a former Vice-President of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, in the United Arab Emirates, UAE.

    According to the statement of the NNPCL’s spokesperson, the appointment of Head, NNPC Trading Limited. was part of the company’s ongoing repositioning drive toward improved growth, performance, and service delivery.

    He described Cordier — a French/Swiss national — as a renowned international oil trader.

    According to Muhammad, Cordier holds a masters degree in corporate finance with a distinction from Paris 9 University.

    “Cordier comes into the role with a rich background spanning over 30 years in physical oil, oil derivatives and risk management with significant experience in reorganising and creating a trading business,” the NNPCL’s spokesperson said.

    He spent 24 years with Elf Trading/Total Trading in various positions as a trader, trading desk manager in Geneva, and four years as the global trading manager at Addax Energy in Geneva.

    “At ADNOC in Abu Dhabi, UAE, he served as vice-president, middle distillates, senior vice-president risk management, senior team member in charge of building the trading activity for ADNOC and the launch of ADNOC Global Trading, AGT, in December 2020.”

    Muhammad however noted that Cordier has since assumed duty in the company.

    The  Chief Upstream Investment Officer, CUIO, Bala Wunti, NNPCL, in a statement welcome the new Head of NNPC Trading said, ” I have known Jean-Marc Cordier, as an internationally renowned oil trader with vast industry knowledge and networks.

    “He has over three decades of experience in building successful international oil trading businesses across various jurisdictions. We are indeed excited that he will drive our oil trading activities and support NNPC Ltd to become the dynamic global energy company of choice,” the Wunti who is also head of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services, NUIMS, said.
